He is the author of a well famed book about the clash of civilizations. Much referred to and quoted from.

I hate to admit my ignorance about the man. That he was "one who opposed the invasion of Iraq and had little sympathy for the neoconservatives of the Bush administration." leads me to think I would have liked him.
I am not afraid to admit that I don’t know everything, but I do stand by what I do know.
